We have it right here: The Earliest Known Aerial Photo of Huletts.

Logger Indicted for Unauthorized Cutting in Huletts

A local logger has been indicted for allegedly stealing approximately $43,000 worth of timber on a remote woodland parcel off of Bluff Head road in Huletts. The District Attorney has brought third degree grand larceny charges against a logger from the Town of Hartford for taking virtually every hardwood tree from 31 acres of forest in Huletts he didn't have the permission to log. The owner of the property discovered the loss during 1999 and alerted the authorities. Assistant District Attorney, Kevin Kortright, was quoted, "Anything that had any value is gone. … (The owner) won't see mature forest there for 75 years." If convicted, the logger could face up to seven years in state prison on the charges.

Foster Brook Delta Targeted for Removal

The Lake George Park Commission and the Lake George Association have recently announced that the excavation of hundreds of tons of sediment from large deltas around Lake George could begin as early as next summer. One of the deltas targeted is at the mouth of Foster Brook in Huletts Landing. The deltas form at the mouth of streams where sand, silt and debris wash into the lake. They result in bars of sand or sediment that block boaters of fish searching for spawning areas. Foster Brook is the small stream that you would cross by bridge as you continue past the Casino.

Garbage Stickers to Increase in Price

Washington County Supervisors recently voted to increase the disposal cost of one bag of garbage to $1.50. Starting next year the cost of garbage (bag) stickers will rise from $1.00 to $1.50 per bag to raise an additional $400,000 in revenue. Whitehall Town Supervisor, Peter Telisky, who can be seen servicing the arcade games in the Casino, spoke out forcefully against the proposed increase. He was quoted as saying, "You're not going to generate $400,000. You're going to get more recycling, and more dumping on the side of the road, so you'll be lucky to gain half of that."

Route 149 Scene of Another Fatal Crash

Many people come to Huletts by exiting the Northway and coming across Route 149 to Fort Ann. Recently a 35-year-old woman died when her car hit a tractor-trailer head-on on Route 149. This accident was the 7th serious accident on this road within the last 18 months. The State Highway Department plans to rework nearly 6 miles of this road shortly. So when traveling on route 149 in the near future, drive carefully, we want you to get to Huletts safely in order to enjoy your vacation.
